The Belgian family holding Weerts Group has bought an industrial land plot of 171,600 sqm for the development of a logistics building of 80,000 sqm in Bury St Edmunds. The site is ideally located for the development of logistics activities along the A14 motorway, the only motorway to Felixstowe, where England’s main container port is located.
A number of companies are looking for local storage and distribution solutions in the United Kingdom, in order to minimize administrative, fiscal and logistical complexity, from January 2021. Weerts Group helps them to address this need.
Bury St Edmunds is a recently established logistics park near Cambridge,38 miles away from the Felixstowe container port. Felixstowe is the 6th busiest port in Europe and the 37th busiest in the world. Bury St Edmunds is located along the main motorway in East England, providing a great base for deliveries within the UK. That is where Weerts Group is developing its first logistics project in the United Kingdom. It includes a state-of-the-art logistics building of 80,000 sqm, of which the construction will take place in Q2 and Q3 of 2021. The building will receive the BREEAM certification “very good”. The roof of the building is fitted with solar panels to produce green energy and will have 66 loading docks and a ceiling height (inside) of 13m. The first phase of the project (40,000 sqm) has already been let, leaving 40,000 sqm available for other customers.
Weerts Group secured financing from Blackstone Real Estate Debt Strategies and is working with local developer Jaynic.
